Neill Blomkamp is NOT working on an EVENT HORIZON sequel.
There, just needed to get that out of the way asap. Now, if you're unfamiliar with Tom Sweterlitsch’s science-fiction thriller novel THE GONE WORLD, no worries, the book will not be released until February 2018.
That said, we have already told you guys a few times now that director Neill Blomkamp has been unofficially attached to directing the film adaptation, and today we can confirm he is, in fact, set to direct the awesome-sounding flick!
The book's synopsis (which you can read below) sounds to me like the EVENT HORIZION sequel we never got – and will never get. To sum up, it involves a murder investigation here on Earth that may be tied to an astronaut that just returned from his mission aboard "a spaceship assumed lost to the darkest currents of Deep Time."
Now while the ship may not have gone, literally, to Hell, the book sounds like it's taking the stance of "what if Sam Neill's crazy-ass character from EVENT HORIZON returned to Earth and super-murdered his family?" That fact that the book is set in 1997 – which we all know was the year EVENT HORIZON was released – makes the theory connections in my head buzz.
Is this book – and resulting movie – ANYWHERE NEAR an Event Horizon sequel?
No. No. Let me repeat, no.
I'm not trying to start rumors, I'm just saying, especially after Blomkamp's past three Oats Studios shorts (which you can check out below) I'm over excited for a Blomkamp time-travel, murder-mystery!
Check out Blomkamp's confirmation tweet:
This just arrived. Truly incredible book by @LetterSwitch . So excited to direct this for @20thcenturyfox pic.twitter.com/kKxyFnhWhM

THE GONE WORLD synopsis:
In Western Pennsylvania, 1997, Shannon Moss, part of a clandestine division within the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, is assigned to solve the murder of a Navy SEAL’s family–and to locate his teenage daughter, who has disappeared.
Though she can’t share the information with conventional law enforcement, Moss discovers that the missing SEAL was an astronaut aboard the spaceship U.S.S. Libra–a ship assumed lost to the darkest currents of Deep Time. Moss knows first-hand the mental trauma of time-travel and believes the SEAL’s experience with the future has triggered this violence.
"Knows first-hand the mental trauma of time-travel"? Oh, snap. This is gonna be good. We'll let you know when we hear more on Neill Blomkamp's THE GONE WORLD.
THE GONE WORLD novel is set to hit shelves February 2018.
