Nicole Kidman unravels a mystery in trailer for HBO’s The Undoing

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Based upon Jean Hanff Korelitz's "You Should Have Known," HBO's upcoming six-episode limited-series The Undoing stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant as Grace and Jonathan Fraser, a couple who are living the only lives they ever wanted for themselves. In the wake of a violent death and a chain of terrible revelations, Grace must navigate a very public disaster as she dismantles one life and creates another for her family. HBO has released the first trailer for the series, which has been penned by David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies) and directed by Susanne Bier (The Night Manager), and the results look like another exemplary limited-series from HBO.

"It’s so twisty and nothing is what it seems," Kidman said of The Undoing during the Television Critics Association press tour. "It’s so hard to talk about it because as it unfolds you can reveal more things but right now, choosing to unknow things is a fascinating part of human nature. When you choose and what you choose to believe and what you choose to see, that’s the basis of a lot of the psychology of this series. We choose to see certain things. Also, everyone has secrets."

The official synopsis for The Undoing:

The Undoing stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant as Grace and Jonathan Fraser, who are living the only lives they ever wanted for themselves. Overnight a chasm opens in their lives: a violent death and a chain of terrible revelations. Left behind in the wake of a spreading and very public disaster and horrified by the ways in which she has failed to heed her own advice, Grace must dismantle one life and create another for her child (Noah Jupe) and her family.

The Undoing will debut on HBO in May 2020.
