Nicolas Cage would love to play DC Comics character, The Spectre

In an AMA session on Reddit, a fan asked Nic Cage what other undead character he’s interested in. Cage threw out an interesting answer.

The Nic(h)olases — Cage and Hoult — connected with the fans over the weekend in an AMA session on Reddit as the duo, who formerly played father and son in the underrated film, The Weather Man, promote their newest venture as master and servant in the horror comedy Renfield. The Nics were asked a wide range of questions, from their favorite soups to their favorite lesser-known roles.

A fan would inquire with Cage what other undead characters he would like to play now that he’s done both Ghost Rider and Dracula, and Cage was quick to answer,
“Ohh! Yeah! Jim Corrigan, the Spectre (old DC comic character). That would be a fun one. But that’s a hard one to pull off because he’s virtually invincible, he has no weakness. You need characters that have a kryptonite, that have a flaw, but he’s kinda unbeatable. But that would be a fun one.”

During the AMA, another fan would ask about the current box office man of the hour, Keanu Reeves. When asked about what their favorite Keanu movie was, Hoult answered with John Wick and Speed. Cage replied Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and River’s Edge, but not before a quick anecdote about a time they played billiards,
“Well… Keanu kicked my ass at billiards one night. He came up to my house on his motorcycle, and he was making these impossible shots. He said, ‘Now I dunno if I can get that shot or this shot,’ and he made every single shot. So I have mixed emotions about the skill that Keanu has because he completely dominated me at pool.”

Early on in the session, Cage was asked what lesser-known performance is his favorite and he revealed a cameo he had done in a film called Never on Tuesday. Cage had an agreement with the director and financier that he would do the cameo if he could play it however he wanted and he made a choice that is completely on-brand,
“So it was a complete avant-garde experiment and of course I played a character who had a prosthetic nose which was very long and pointed. And I had this whole concept of this guy who had a very long nose and was having trouble meeting girls so his father bought him a Ferrari Testarossa to help him with that. So I showed up on set with a prosthetic nose and a very high voice driving a Ferrari Testarossa and of course it was very frustrating for all the other actors. They like it now, apparently, but at the time it was like you can’t really fire me because that was the agreement.”
The whole movie is on YouTube. However, Cage doesn’t recommend the whole movie, so you can watch his very brief appearance at this time stamp.

Renfield sinks its teeth into theaters on April 14.
