Nicolas Cage Western film Butcher’s Crossing unveils the actor’s new look

Prepare yourselves for a first look at the Nicolas Cage Western film Butcher’s Crossing. Currently filming in Montana, the Gabe Polsky-directed drama tells the story of a young Harvard dropout who seeks his destiny out West by tying his fate to a team of buffalo hunters led by Miller, played by Nicolas Cage. Together, they embark on a harrowing journey risking life and sanity. Set in the 1870s, Butcher’s Crossing refers to the small Kansas town where the young man and Miller intersect.

For the Nicolas Cage Western, the actor appears to be sporting a fur coat, leather gloves, a study undershirt, and a shaved head. I wonder if he’s carrying any weapons underneath that coat? Perhaps a buffalo skinning knife? Maybe a canteen full of fresh river water? The Western plains are a dangerous place for even the most well-trained hunter to tread and don’t even get me started on a Harvard dropout. That young man could be cryin’ for his mama before the first night is through. Deadline was the first to reveal Cage’s new look in the image posted above.

Nicolas Cage recently wrapped production for The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, in which a cash-strapped Nicolas Cage agrees to make a paid appearance at a billionaire super fan’s birthday party, but is an informant for the CIA since the billionaire fan is a drug kingpin and gets cast in a Tarantino movie. Sounds pretty wild, right? The film also stars Pedro Pascal, Tiffany Haddish, Neil Patrick Harris, Sharon Horgan, Jacob Scipio, Alessandra Mastronardi, and more.

Nicolas Cage is also set to star in The Old Way from director Brett Donowho. In the film, an old gunslinger and his daughter must face the consequences of his past, when the son of a man he murdered years ago arrives to take his revenge. Believe it or not, The Old Way will be Cage’s first time starring in a motion picture that hails from the Western genre.

After 43 years in cinema, I’m only now being invited to the important and storied genre of the Western with both The Old Way and Butcher’s Crossing,” Cage said. “Being born and raised in the West, this is another good match and long overdue. I’m excited and compelled by the complex characters of both Briggs and Miller, and to find new ground to play at 57 is indeed galvanizing.
