Over the past few years, Nicolas Cage has appeared in dozens of direct-to-video movies, and while most aren't exactly what we would consider to be good, there are a few gems of craziness among them, and I've got high-hopes that COLOR OUT OF SPACE will be one of them. RLJE Films have released a new trailer for the upcoming film, and it looks pretty wild and well worth your time.
Based on the short story of the same name by H. P. Lovecraft, COLOR OUT OF SPACE stars Nicolas Cage as Nathan Gardner, a struggling artist who brings his family from the city to a rural country estate. After a meteorite lands in their front yard, the Gardner family find themselves battling a mutant extraterrestrial organism as it infects their minds and bodies, transforming their quiet rural life into a living nightmare. I'm sold. In addition to Nicolas Cage, COLOR OUT OF SPACE also stars Joely Richardson, Madeleine Arthur, Brendan Meyer, Julian Hilliard, Elliot Knight, Josh C. Waller, Q’orianka Kilcher, and Tommy Chong. The film was written and directed by Richard Stanley, which marks his return to the world of feature-films since he was fired from THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU over two decades ago. Our own Chris Bumbray caught the film at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year, and while he admits that it may be "a touch slow and arty for hardcore horror fans," the surreal film features one of Nicolas Cages' best performances in years.
COLOR OUT OF SPACE will hit theaters on January 24, 2020.
