Well, it’s finally happened. Nicolas Cage has officially reached what I’d like to think is peak Cage, with Lionsgate streaming, right now, a livestream of the actor screaming for ten hours straight. Of course, Cage isn’t really sitting somewhere screaming for ten hours (impossible for most mortal men – but possibly not for Cage?). Instead, it’s a well-looped clip from his upcoming The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, but it’s a fine tribute to perhaps the most iconic actor of his generation.
I mean, who even comes close to being as wild a guy as Nicolas Cage anymore? Everyone is so concerned with their image these days, but after years of toiling in VOD, Cage has come back into the zeitgeist HIS WAY. He didn’t do it by taking on small character roles in mainstream movies. No, he embraced the chaos that is Nicolas Cage by delivering one of the best performances of his career in Pig and starring as HIMSELF in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. And indeed, the film already ranks as one of the best-reviewed movies of his career and seems like a surefire cult hit – at the very least. As we speak, Cage is in New Orleans playing Dracula in Universal’s Renfield, and the set pics promise the Cage renaissance won’t be going away any time soon. So, if you’re like me and you want to embrace the chaos that is Nicolas Cage, press play on the video heading off this story and go deep into the beautiful insanity that is Nicolas Cage.
In the meantime, you can catch the Golden Schmoe-winning Pig right here, while The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent comes out on April 22nd. Cage’s turn in Renfield should be out sometime in 2023, while he’s also got a few lower-key movies, The Retirement Plan, Butcher’s Crossing, and The Old Way, presumably hitting VOD this year.
