Nicolas Cage on his noir-inspired role in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

The upcoming SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE will feature many different web-slingers joining forces, one of whom will be voiced by none other than Nicolas Cage. I don't know about you, but that's pretty exciting. Nicolas Cage will be voicing Spider-Man Noir, an alternate take on the character whose adventures took place during the Great Depression, and the actor recently discussed his inspirations for the role while chatting with Entertainment Weekly.

There are multiple Spider-Men in different dimensions that are kind of colliding together. My character’s Spider-Man Noir. He’s really Peter Parker from the ’30s. I tried to channel those noir films with [Humphrey] Bogart, and have those kinds of sounds that he might make with [James] Cagney, or Edward G. Robinson, that kind of way of talking. I tried to give the character that. It was a lot of fun. I think it should be quite funny. The movie definitely has a sense of humor, and that’s a good thing because it’s good for the whole family.

SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE follows Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) as he deals with becoming a hero after gaining superpowers, but he soon teams up with Spider-People from other dimensions, such as Peter Parker (Jake Johnson), Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld), Peni Parker (Kimiko Glenn), Spider-Ham (John Mulaney), and Spider-Man Noir (Cage).

If you need a little more information about the nature of Spider-Man Noir, here's Wikipedia with more:

In this reality, Peter Parker is an inexperienced yet idealistic apprentice of a respected yet troubled reporter, who is accidentally bitten by a illegally imported and highly venomous spider, while secretly investigating a smuggling ring of ancient spider statues, but instead of killing him, the incident imbues him with super-human abilities, similar to that of a spider. Using advantage of his new abilities, Parker begins to wage a one-man war against the criminal underworld in New York City as a brutal and feared vigilante, known as the "Spider-Man", partly to avenge the death of his uncle: Ben Parker, at the hands of the city's major crime lord: Norman Osborn.

Spider-Man Noir isn't the only superhero who Nicolas Cage has lent his voice to this year, as he also played Superman in the recent TEEN TITANS GO! TO THE MOVIES.
