Haven’t most of us wanted to wear Nicolas Cage’s face since 1997? Well, a lucky few will have that opportunity as Legion M is selling a very limited quantity of a hyper-realistic Nicolas Cage mask based on the actor’s appearance in Panos Cosmatos’ Mandy.
Crafted by FX artist Rubber Larry, who is known for creating ultra-realistic stunt masks for studios, each Nicolas Cage mask has been handcrafted by the artist based on countless photos and references from the film. Check out some photos below.
“Cast in the highest-grade latex rubber, these thick but soft and comfortable masks are inspected, trimmed, then are primed, painted, and sealed in silicone rubber for realism, durability, and longevity,” reads the official description. “A technique Larry developed while fabricating masks that would be put through production wear. Every mask gets the utmost attention to detail from the skin tone to the translucent blood, all the way down to the painstakingly hand laid, styled and trimmed hair.” I’m not about to ask what you’re going to do when you do wear the mask, but when it’s not in use, the Nicolas Cage mask also doubles as a display bust and comes with its very own custom, solid resin sculpted base.
I mentioned that there’s only a limited quantity of these Nicolas Cage masks? Well, only thirty will ever be made. There are 10 ready to ship right now, but once those are sold out, the remaining 20 will have to be pre-ordered. How much will this cost you? It ain’t going to be cheap. Each mask is going for $1,999, which isn’t exactly a small chunk of change. Although the mask does include holes drilled in the pupils for adequate vision, Legion M recommends against “driving, operating machinery or chainsaws” while wearing the mask. Sound advice.
Nicolas Cage will next be seen in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, an action-comedy in which Cage stars as a fictionalized version of himself. The first red-band trailer for the film was recently unleashed at CinemaCon to a great reaction.
