Oliver Stone has snagged one of his WORLD TRADE CENTER stars for his upcoming film about whistleblower Edward Snowden. Deadline is reporting that Nicolas Cage has been tapped to play a former U.S. intelligence official in SNOWDEN, joining previously cast actors Joseph Gordon-Levitt (as Snowden), Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Timothy Olyphant, Rhys Ifans and Joely Richardson.
Last week we learned SNOWDEN will hit theaters on Christmas Day 2015, which means the producers and filmmakers probably think the film will do quite well come awards season. While it certainly could win a few awards (especially with such an amazing cast), I haven't been that impressed with Oliver Stone's recent films. I know some people really liked Stone's SAVAGES, but I thought it was just OK, and his George W. Bush biopic bored me to tears. By the way, this is coming from someone who isn't a fan of the former president.
Although it may not sound like I'm not that high on SNOWDEN, I do want to see Oliver Stone's new movie, and I'm interested in seeing what the director will do with his take on the Edward Snowden story. Are you planning on checking out SNOWDEN later this year?
