Nick Groff Investigates… The Art of Ghost Hunting in Groups

Nick Groff is one of the most respected names in television and beyond when it comes to the paranormal. He has had incredible experiences in some of the most haunted locations in the world. As a friend to Arrow in the Head, we’ve shared some very exciting experiences with Nick including a couple of wild and spooky moments that we’ve managed to capture on camera. Thus, we’ve decided to work with the television host and producer extraordinaire so he can share his knowledge and insight on all things that go bump in the night. With this bi-monthly column, we plan to delve into everything from urban legends to ghostly apparitions, to his take on some of the coolest genre flicks ever. This is Nick Groff Investigates…!

I’ll never forget stepping into The Washoe Club in Virginia City, Nevada. It was my first experience with joining one of the Nick Groff Tours, and it was a sensationally spooky journey into the unknown. Nick and I even had the opportunity to spend some time in this historic location all by our lonesomes. Even my cameraman and pal, Daniel Martinez, felt a chill when we heard strange voices on the videos we were editing for the piece. This was an incredible experience that had me feeling a number of emotions, especially when I learned what happened in a certain area that I was drawn to.

Yet this was not the only time I’ve stepped into the world of shadows with Mr. Groff. In fact, I’ve had a number of occasions to join, and each time we’ve had some chilling event remind me that something may be lurking in the shadows. This includes the one on one experience, as well as a  group of people making their way into the darkness. While at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California, a large collection of us heard a horrifying voice call out from a recording – one that we didn’t hear until playback.

This begs the question, what is the difference between a spirited ghost hunt with a group, or with only a small select chosen few? Having done both, I can honestly say that we’ve had strange occurrences for each haunted excursion. And with Nick’s recent event taking place at the Murdock-Whitney Mansion in Winchester, Massachusetts, it proved to be yet another fascinating location to keep the faint of heart up at night. While I personally did not attend, I have to say that I look forward to joining Nick and the gang once again at some point soon.

Frankly, the recently announced return to Bobby Mackey’s would be a paranormal lovers dream. As well as the return to the Queen Mary. Is there a difference between a large group of ghost hunters as opposed to a smaller, more private event? It’s safe to say that there could be a little more attention spent with only a couple of folks in a haunted location. However, I asked Nick about his own experiences as to whether it is a huge difference. Can you find answers with a few like-minded folks as well? Well, I’ll let Nick explain…

“Nick Groff Tour was set up years ago to allow people from all over the world to come and investigate different iconic haunted locations with me. I’ve been conducting experiments with small groups to see if there’s a difference when alone or in groups to document Paranormal activity. The results have been very fascinating! What I’ve learned is the energy changes between new people in the groups compared to a constant energy from one person. As a Paranormal researcher, it’s always good to have a controlled environment to get a base line reading of the environment just in case un-explainable things occur. With group sessions, you never know what will happen and I really enjoy investigating with people to see if we share experiences.

During our tour investigations, I love seeing the reactions from people in the groups, especially when they’re shared experiences. It happens a lot. I’ve had a ton of different perspectives join my tours. From believers, to skeptics, to wanting to believe and so on…All have walked away from the tours opened minded and interested in learning more.

All of the Tour locations I’ve investigated with the groups offer different experiences every time we visit. Mansfield Reformatory, Bobby Mackey, Ashmore Estates are some amazing locations that always surprise us with weird happens.
