Nick Groff is one of the most respected names in television and beyond when it comes to the paranormal. He has had incredible experiences in some of the most haunted locations in the world. As a friend to Arrow in the Head, we’ve shared some very exciting experiences with Nick including a couple of wild and spooky moments that we’ve managed to capture on camera. Thus, we’ve decided to work with the television host and producer extraordinaire so he can share his knowledge and insight on all things that go bump in the night. With this bi-monthly column, we plan to delve into everything from urban legends to ghostly apparitions, to his take on some of the coolest genre flicks ever. This is Nick Groff Investigates…!
Shepton Mallet Prison
Last month, I had the unforgettable opportunity to travel to London – covering TOLKIEN for JoBlo.com. It was only my second time in the UK, but it was once again an amazing experience to have. During the trip, we had the chance to take a tour of Oxford – which was incredible on every level and you can check it out below. The visit had me wondering what kinds of stories do these massive walls have to tell? Even thought I didn’t have any spooky moments while on the trip, there had been several times where I stepped into a place that you could feel the history seep into you. This included a trip to The Tower of London, which is one place that I’ve always longed to visit. And let me tell you, stepping into the “Bloody Tower” gave me the chills.
Recently, upon my return, I thought about Nick Groff, and his own time across the pond while shooting Paranormal Lockdown UK. During our conversation, I asked him about the places he visited, and the ones that stood out the most. And one of our conversations led to my asking about the one specific place that really affected him during his time there. After a moment, he responded with Shepton Mallet Prison. While I was aware of a number of terrifying locations in that area, this was new to me. However, I was more than a little intrigued in this subject thanks to Nick.
Shepton Mallet Prison located in Shepton Mallet, Somerset, England, appears to be a fascinating and creepy place. Generally I don’t go into a huge history lesson here, but let’s just say that this prison has a fascinating – and perhaps slightly problematic – history. While it had a bit of a messy beginning – the prison itself was in need of repairs just over twenty years after its opening before 1625 – it was also home to a number of executions. And you all know what that means? There’s a damn good chance that some of those souls may be still be lingering in the dark of the night.
So what’s going on at the location of the Shepton Mallet Prison? Perhaps Nick can lend a bit of insight into what lies beyond the walls of this impressive place. And as a plus, you can also get an in-depth look at it thanks to an excellent episode of Paranormal Lockdown UK available on Amazon Prime – you can find the link here. And here is what our man Nick Groff had to say about this spooky locale.
“Shepton Mallet Prison was by far one of the most active and creepiest places I’ve had the privilege to explore. Living inside the prison walls for 72hrs was intense! I’ve been to some very interesting and historic locations where you can feel the strong energy. Shepton Mallet has a ton of history and stories attached to the location so it wasn’t surprising to experience the activity first hand! The energy would come in waves and I felt uneasy walking around by myself. Sleeping in the worst spots only enhanced the connection I began to have while trying to communicate with the other side. I was terrified to enter into the underground jail cells to investigate by myself. One of the hardest places to try and sleep!
This was a very challenging location to conquer but well worth the evidence discovered. Paranormal Lockdown UK, Shepton Mallet Prison is one of the best. So many shadow figures moving throughout as if they were studying us. Very creepy!!
The U.K. has a lot of rich history and layers of hauntings to dive into. Each location offers something different but Shepton Mallet Prison will be in my top list to revisit and investigate more in the future.
