Nick Groff is one of the most respected names in television and beyond when it comes to the paranormal. He has had incredible experiences in some of the most haunted locations in the world. As a friend to Arrow in the Head, we’ve shared some very exciting experiences with Nick including a couple of wild and spooky moments that we’ve managed to capture on camera. Thus, we’ve decided to work with the television host and producer extraordinaire so he can share his knowledge and insight on all things that go bump in the night. With this bi-monthly column, we plan to delve into everything from urban legends to ghostly apparitions, to his take on some of the coolest genre flicks ever. This is Nick Groff Investigates…!
THE BRUSHY MOUNTAIN PENITENTIARY
When it comes to exploring creepy buildings that seem to have an overabundance of unexplained activity, I’ve always had a fascinating time doing so with Nick Groff. If you haven’t already, you can take a look at the adventure I recently had with him and his crew at the Washoe Club in Virginia City, Nevada – you can get a taste of what happened in part one and part two of our exploration. And now that Nick is moving forward with a brand new show, there is much to investigate in the world of the paranormal. While we’ll have to wait to finally see what Mr. Groff is up to, we here at AITH are excited to follow along for the ride and keep you all informed of what’s to come.
Now to be fair, Nick has been very busy preparing and traveling across these United States. However, he’s taking a bit of time to give us a little insight into a place that I wasn’t initially familiar with. Yet it's one that I'd love to check out myself. The Brushy Mountain Penitentiary in Tennessee sounds like one of those locations that will stay with you. I mean, let’s face it, old prisons are freaking scary as hell no matter what’s hiding in the shadows. With that said, once Nick mentioned this particular location, it appeared to be the perfect follow up to Washoe.
Brushy Hills Penn was established in 1896 and survived all the way until 2009. Now, the prison – located deep in a wooded area – is now one of the locations that you’d pass by if you are involved in the Barkley Marathons according to Brushy’s wikipedia page – talk about a scary marathon. Now as far as the events and occurrences at this particular place, I am far less aware. Thankfully, I had the perfect person to inform me on this intriguing prison and all the secrets it has to offer. As part of the upcoming Nick Groff Investigates series, I’m thrilled to bring to you an early look at what we can expect from this hidden oasis of hauntings. Take it away Nick!
"Brushy Mountain Penn is one of the most unique prisons I’ve ever investigated. I first explored this location in 2018 with the Nick Groff Tour. In solitary confinement I connected with a spirit that was directly communicating and giving insight about the location. I was intrigued to learn more after this experience. Having the opportunity to revisit the location recently for Nick Groff Investigates helped me understand some theories that I was thinking about since I left.
With an estimated ten thousand deaths I felt the energy could definitely still be lingering. What I discovered was a direct line to the other side in one of the dark cells in the hole. I was having a conversation with who I believed to be an inmate. The strange activity picked up as the weather outside changed. Static electricity and sounds started to ripple effect the atmosphere. At the same time I noticed an increase in unexplainable phenomena. The man's voice I was talking to through my audio device became more clear. My theory I had about the reality we live in can cross over into the reality of the inmate that is living in a different time. The reason I came to this conclusion is because of the evidence I documented.
This location would of been scary to be a prisoner, but today I’m intrigued more than frightened. I want to further the research because it’s the perfect environment to connect with somebody from the other side.
Amazing location with a lot of tragic death. The history continues through the stories and experiences people still have today.
I journeyed into the darkness beyond the prison walls where inmates lived out their lives and I felt the energy that still resonates from what the prisoners called hell on earth."
