So there's a J.R.R. Tolkien biopic coming out soon called MIDDLE-EARTH (not be confused with the videogame series of the same name) that will star Nicholas Hoult as the author himself.
According to Deadline the film "explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a fellow group of outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the “fellowship” apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-Earth novels."
Sounds good to me (though I imagine Tolkien would take umbrage to the use of direct allegory in that synopsis, but oh well).I also generally like Hoult, so I think this is a pretty good (if somewhat overly safe) casting choice. Definitely looking forward to the scene where he's reading an early draft of LORD OF THE RINGS and one of his friends groans "oh no, not another fucking Elf!"
So what do you Schmoes think, you down for a Tolkien biopic? And if so, what do you think about Hoult taking on the role? Either way, sound off below!
