It has been two years now since we last saw an episode of TRUE DETECTIVE. And that last episode was the "meh" second season finale of the series, which other than featuring Colin Farrell's amazing performance, and that David Lynch scene between Farrell and Fred Ward set to The Rose by Conway Twitty, was pretty much a bust.
Anyhow, it seems TRUE DETECTIVE season three is moving along over at HBO. The last we heard about the series was back in July when HBO head of programming Casey Bloys said:
“…both Nic and HBO are open to another season. I don’t think Nic has a take and he’s working on some other projects. We’re open to somebody else writing it and Nic supervising it. It’s a valuable franchise, it’s not dead, we just don’t have a take for a third season yet.”
Well today, EW is reporting that creator Nic Pizzolatto has written at least the first two episodes of the third season! Not only that but Emmy-winning writer-producer David Milch (DEADWOOD, NYPD BLUE) is going to be helping out Pizzolatto this upcoming season.
Which is probably for the best…
The extent of their collaboration is still unknown but Milch is said to be "a key component". Also, for the record, he will not be taking over as showrunner. The third season's showrunner is officially up in the air at this point.
Also, it is important to note that the new season has not been officially greenlit yet so there is still a chance we might not see these episodes Nick has already penned. But I'm optimistic.
Now let's hear some news of Matthew McConaughey's return…
