Although STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER just crossed $1 billion at the global box office, the film has been overshadowed by another STAR WARS property, Disney+'s The Mandalorian. The Lone Wolf and Cub inspired space opera/pseudo-Western contains some of the best STAR WARS storytelling this side of Timothy Zahn. Jon Favreau's space adventure has captured the hearts and minds of even the saltiest of STAR WARS fans and proves that, despite rumors to the contrary, STAR WARS is still very much alive.
Even if Pedro Pascal's beskar covered anti-hero is the featured lead in Favreau's space fantasy, it's Pascal's sidekick that has really struck a chord with audiences. Dubbed "Baby Yoda" due to sharing the same unknown species as the Jedi Master and not (currently) possessing a name, the little green guy is the definition of cute. The broth sipping, magic hand waving, "awwww" inducing bundle of cuteness has launched a thousand memes and GIFs. It's also resulted in a wave of Baby Yoda merchandise and online debates about who is more adorable: Baby Yoda or Babu Frick? (It's Baby Yoda in case you were wondering.)
Yes it seems no one is immune to Baby Yoda's charms and that includes STAR WARS architect George Lucas. While Lucas may not be super keen on the direction Disney is taking with his storied franchise, it nevertheless didn't prevent the director from visiting the set of The Mandalorian. While on set Lucas had the chance to hold The Child himself and showrruner Jon Favreau took the opportunity to snap a photo:

It's not clear exactly when this photo was taken however. As previously mentioned Lucas did visit the set during production of season one. However, the second season of The Mandalorian is currently filming so it's entirely possible this photo was snapped recently. Regardless of when the picture occurred however, you can't deny the inherent cuteness of this image. It mimics the concept of a grandfather holding his grandchild for the first time. It's actually also kind of true, at least from a certain point of view.
The entire first season of The Mandalorian is currently streaming on Disney+ and the second season is expected later this year.
