In one of the first domestic awards of the season, AMERICAN HUSTLE has landed the Best Picture honors at the New York Film Critic Circle Awards. The honor represents a definite leg up for the David O. Russell film heading into contention for the Golden Globes and the Oscars. In addition to the film winning, Jennifer Lawrence also nabbed the Best Supporting Actress honor, marking her second awarded performance in a row for a Russell movie. Russell also nabbed Best Screenplay honors which he shares with co-writer Eric Warren Singer.
AMERICAN HUSTLE is shaping up to be a big contender this year at every awards show as are 12 YEARS A SLAVE and DALLAS BUYERS CLUB which also took home awards for directing and acting (Jared Leto), respectively. Films snubbed at the ceremony include THE WOLF OF WALL STREET and GRAVITY which many considered to be shoe-ins for honors. As more and more groups reveal their picks for the best films of 2013, keep an eye out for who takes home which trophies.
AMERICAN HUSTLE opens in theaters on December 18th.
