Director Bryan Singer has been very open about sharing images from his latest X-MEN films via Instagram. Some have been enigmatic and others have showed virtually nothing, but every image has been open about what we will be getting in next year's X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Whether you like it or not, it does seem to put more confidence in the finished product if the filmmakers are willing to show us what is happening during the production process (ahem, Josh Trank).
In recent weeks, Singer has shared several new glimpses of the X-MEN: APOCALYPSE production including a look at a pair of beams shaped like an 'X' in what looks like the ruins of an action scene, a shot of some mutant costumes at an Area 51-like facility, and a shot of Ben Hardy as Warren Worthington III as he enters an underground fight club. You can see all three images below.
Warren Worthington (aka Angel) was last seen in Brett Ratner's X-MEN: THE LAST STAND where he was played by Ben Foster. In X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, Angel appears to be in East Berlin (remember, it is the 1980s) and seems to be taking out his angst by fighting in a steel cage. Is this by choice or against his will? It is unclear but it definitely could be a nice fight if Angel gets to use his powers.
X-MEN: APOCALYPSE has the burden of not only following up the excellent X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST but also redeeming 20th Century Fox's Marvel properties following the bombing of FANTASTIC FOUR. Hopefully between DEADPOOL and X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, we will get some quality mutant action.
X-MEN: APOCALYPSE hits theaters on May 27, 2016.
