New video reveals just how ILM brought Tarkin & Leia back for Rogue One

One of the most talked about elements of ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY over these past several weeks has been the appearance of Peter Cushing as Grand Moff Tarkin looking almost exactly how he appeared in A NEW HOPE. An impressive feat to be sure, especially considering that Cushing had been dead for over twenty years. I've spoken to people who recognized Tarkin as a CGI recreation immediately and others who were completely fooled. As for myself, I found the work to be quite extraordinary, but it still feels as though the visual-effects community is a few steps away from completely nailing it.

A recent Nightline segment explored just how ILM brought 1977-era Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher back to life in ROGUE ONE, with plenty of behind-the-scenes footage, close-ups of the shockingly detailed digital models and a look at Guy Henry suited up as Tarkin without his CGI makeup.

ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY is currently playing in theaters, so make sure to check out reviews from our own Chris Bumbray and Eric Walkuski.
