This last weekend we got a tease of the new trailer for VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS, which is set to drop on March 29. I figured we could get something else from the movie before that, like a clip or something, and my psychic powers proved right and we now have a new poster courtesy of EW featuring the icy blue eyes of Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne
Director Luc Besson spoke about the poster, saying he didn’t have any involvement in its creation, instead wanting it to feel fresh to his own movie-loving eyes:
I didn’t participate in the creation of the poster. I wanted to stay fresh and react as a moviegoer seeing it for the first time. This poster was the most striking to me and the whole team was in agreement.
As for the poster I love the blue color scheme, which is clearly a consistent theme we’ve seen in other posters and the first trailer. However, I’m sort of sick of this plain “two actors staring at us” design. Yeah it’s simple, but it’s too simple. PASSENGERS did the same thing last year, and given the production value of both movies (especially VALERIAN) I would expect something with a bit more pizazz. Oh well, they could come up with something else soon I suppose, and blue is my favorite color. How did you know, Besson? Who told you!?
VALERIAN arrives on July 21 with a supporting cast of Ethan Hawke, John Goodman, Clive Owen, Rihanna and more!
