JOHN CARTER has been “kind of” on the radar, but seems to be getting shoved off due to the heavy anticipation for the two behemoth movies coming out this summer (THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and THE AVENGERS obviously) and it’s kind of a shame, because it looks really good.
What peaked my interest early on was Andrew Stanton directing, yet another Pixar alum taking on live action for the first time. If Brad Bird’s success on MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL was any indication of the animator-to-live-action vision then I think that JOHN CARTER is likely to kick many forms of alien ass.

Now, that’s what I’m talkin’ about! Who says you have to wait til summer for a good, big budget romp? I love the use of the symphonic Led Zeppelin song “Kashmir” throughout the marketing and would give mad props if they actually used it in the film. It’s doubtful they will, but a Michael Giacchino score isn’t too shabby either.
Speaking of which, if you head over to the official site, you can hear a sampling of his score, which sounds perfectly in line with what you’d expect. And that’s a good thing.
JOHN CARTER jumps through the air, throws chains, and more than likely bags the tattooed babe on March 9, 2012.
