New trailer released for Sofia Coppola’s western thriller Beguiled

I'd say I'm a fan of Sofia Coppola. While I can't say I've seen all her films, the ones that I have (like VIRGIN SUICIDES, LOST IN TRANSLATION, and MARIE ANTOINETTE) each had singular visions and a unique voice. So I'm always at least curious when her newest films arrive, and her western thriller BEGUILED is no exception. Here's the official synopsis:

While imprisoned in a Confederate girls' boarding school, an injured Union soldier cons his way into each of the lonely women's hearts, causing them to turn on each other, and eventually, on him.

And here's the moody, stylish trailer:

Color me intrigued, as this doesn't look like anything she's done before. While she's directed period pieces (such as the aforementioned MARIE ANTOINETTE), it was more poppy and purposely subversive; however this looks like probably the darkest things she's done since her debut THE VIRGIN SUICIDES, but with a more thriller/horror edge. I can't wait to find out how she pulls it off.

Either way, BEGUILED will be released in select theaters June 23rd, 2017, then a wider release June 30th.
