It’s been a long while since SUICIDE SQUAD debuted its first trailer just after the WB Comic Con panel and ever since then fans have been buzzing about the villain-led superteam pic from director David Ayer. From its creepy tone and bang-up cast, the film has continued to gain traction with each slice of news. Now, the latest trailer for the flick as arrived, as part of the CW’s DC Night, and it’s definitely a doozy. Flowing with the tunes of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and littered with action beats, this is most definitely a trailer worth getting hyped over and one you’ll be replaying over and over again for weeks to come.
“We’re bad guys. It’s what we do.”
Here’s the synopsis:
A secret government agency run by Amanda Waller, named A.R.G.U.S creates a task force comprised of super villains, the “Suicide Squad”. They are assigned to execute dangerous tasks in exchange for shorter prison sentences.
With the recent buzz of DEADPOOL seeming to nail the tone and style of the comics with a hard-R, one would hope that SUICIDE SQUAD can tap into similar roots (albeit with a PG-13), by taking a non-standard route in the comic book genre. Fans starting to get weary of the more formulaic stuff will likely embrace this new angle, which gives us a colorful, stylistic, and hyperviolent superhero/villain group to root for rather than the black and white good vs. evil stories we’ve gotten accustomed to thus far. Could DEADPOOL and SUICIDE SQUAD be the beginning of more risky comic book films? It’s certainly looking that way.
SUICIDE SQUADS hits theaters on August 5, 2016.
