Say what you want but I'm a sucker for some good Bayhem. Director Michael Bay has made a career out of making explosions, gunfights, and car chases sexier and more entertaining than a Victoria Secret fashion show with pyrotechnics. Whether you prefer Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage infiltrating Alcatraz to stop terrorists or Shia LaBeouf duking it out with giant robots, Bay has got you covered. While Michael Bay has spent the majority of the last decade focusing on the world of Optimus Prime, his upcoming Netflix film 6 UNDERGROUND looks to be a return to the old school for the erstwhile director.
The new film stars DEADPOOL actor Ryan Reynolds and follows, "Six individuals form a vigilante squad after faking their deaths in order to take down notorious criminals. All of them were brought to the team by its leader (Reynolds) for their unique skills and a desire to erase their past and change the future." Personally, I love how this trailer was put together. It starts out like a tranquil add for visiting Italy until BOOM they hit you with a Day-Glo green car careening around Florence. Cut to helicopters, car crashes, a dude doing parkour, and slo-mo puppy escapes. I. AM. ALL. IN.
What's perplexing and frustrating to me is that a $150 million film like 6 UNDERGROUND landed at Netflix. I'm sorry but this looks like the type of movie that screams to be shown on the big screen. Hell in IMAX for that matter. It's really a testament to how the film industry has changed because fifteen years ago, this absolutely would have been a theatrical release. Ahh well, it still won't stop me from checking this sucker out day one.
6 UNDERGROUND starring Ryan Reynolds, Melanie Laurent, Ben Hardy, and Dave Franco crashes its way onto Netflix December 13.
