The new Jason Segel horror movie (I know, so weird to type that) THE DISCOVERY has to have one of the most killer premises I've heard in a while.
You see there is this scientist (or something) played by Robert Redford. He finds out there is an afterlife. He shares proof of this with the world. And guess what happens? People start to super, duper kill themselves in mass numbers.
Holy sh*t that is a great premise for a movie.
Too bad it seems that the movie takes place AFTER most of that plot has already happened and the actual movie's plot is about… well, truthfully from the trailer I can't quit tell. It looks like it's about Redford talking in a mansion to Mary Steenburgen, while Jason Segel plays on the beach with a ghost Rooney Mara that can move in reverse…
I don't know what to tell you about all that, but I do know I will checking the flick out once it hits Netflix March 31st. Until then you can check out the new trailer & key art below.
THE DISCOVERY synopsis:
The Discovery stars Robert Redford, Rooney Mara, Jason Segel, Riley Keough and Jesse Plemons and is a love story set in a world where the afterlife has been scientifically proven, and as a result millions of people start taking their own lives to “get there.” Directed by Charlie McDowell and written by McDowell and Justin Lader (The One I Love), the film was produced by Alex Orlovsky of A-LO Films and James D. Stern of Endgame Entertainment, and was co-financed by Endgame Entertainment and Protagonist Pictures.
