A new trailer for Disney's MALEFICENT has flown in, featuring a much deeper look at the story, particularly the origins of Angelina Jolie's dark sorcereress. There's plenty of new footage in the trailer, much of which harkens back to the classic Disney cartoon, but also a nice batch of things we've not seen before. It appears that we'll dive into the origins of MALEFICENT in a big way, which would make sense as she IS the titular character. Co-starring Sharlto Copley and Elle Fanning, the fairy-tale flick certainly looks like it's got a lot going for it, especially with Jolie leading the charge.
Take a look:
Here's the synopsis:
"Maleficent," the untold story of Disney's most iconic villain from the 1959 classic "Sleeping Beauty," reveals the events that hardened Maleficent's heart and drove her to curse the baby, Aurora.
I think Angelina Jolie is the big sell here. She has the perfect blend of malevolence and beauty that can make a feature-length film about a villain something you'd want to sit through. I have no doubt she'll ham it up as needed, but I really like her subtle little moments throughout the trailer. Down to the smallest mannerisms it seems like the actress has a firm grasp on who she is playing, which should make for a fun watch at the theater.
MALEFICENT soars into theaters on May 30, 2014.
