I said I wasn't sold on Disney's MALEFICENT when the first trailer was released a couple of months ago, but I also said another trailer could change my mind. Well, a new trailer has been released, and while I do think it's better than the first one, I'm still not that excited for the upcoming movie. Visually it looks great, but something feels just a little bit off in these two trailers. But hey, that's just my opinion, and maybe I'll be wrong about Disney's new film.
The new trailer does have some new footage, including a glimpse at Sharlto Copley's King Stefan, and some cool looking tree creatures. It also features singer Lana Del Rey's new version of the classic song "One Upon a Dream" from the original animated Disney movie. Some may hate this cover, but I actually kind of like it.
"Well, well…"
Synopsis:
"MALEFICENT is the untold story of Disney's most iconic villain from the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty. A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land's fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal – an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king's successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom – and perhaps to Maleficent's true happiness as well."
MALEFICENT starring Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley, Brenton Twaites, and Juno Temple, and directed by Robert Stromberg will be released on May 30th, 2014.
