The final trailer for DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES is here and it’s the best look yet at the sequel to 2011’s RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. Also, it has apes riding on horses while firing semi-automatic weapons and if that’s not enough to get you into the theater then I just don’t know what is. It looks like director Matt Reeves has made a really solid entry into the long-running franchise (in its various incarnations) with some great-looking visuals and outstanding performances from both the live-action and mo-cap actors.
Grab your gun and hop on a horse!:
Here’s the synopsis:
A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.
I wasn’t a huge fan of RISE, so I didn’t have a lot riding on DAWN, but I must say that this one looks exceptional. Besides the already mentioned apes-on-horseback-with-guns aspect, I’m really digging the in-between storyline that’s leading to the next chapter as we get to see how both the humans and apes have survived and adapted to their new post-apocalyptic world with everything hanging in the balance by a very thin thread. I’m sure the blanket of hope will be yanked out from under us by the end credits, but that’s okay as something has to get us to the next chapter. I’m excited to see it unfold.
DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, starring Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Andy Serkis, and Keri Russell opens on July 11, 2014.
