If you haven't read James S.A. Corey's The Expanse series or watched the awesome television show of the same name, you are really missing out. Science-fiction's answer to Game of Thrones, the show follows James Holden (Steven Straight) and the crew of the Rocinante as they navigate their way through the politics, wars, and civil strife of Earth's solar system. When an alien entity known as the protomolecule results in humanity's expansion into interstellar space, the stakes are raised not just for the crew of the Rocinante, but all of humankind.
While the show was praised by critics and audiences alike, the SyFy channel inexplicably canceled the show after only three seasons. Thankfully for fans of the science-fiction saga, Amazon quickly picked up the series putting a fourth season into production and greenlighting a fifth season. In anticipation of next month's fourth season, Amazon dropped a brand new trailer just a little bit ago and man does it deliver.
Based on the fourth book Cibola Burn, the new season of The Expanse promises to be an even more harrowing journey into the vastness of space. While a fresh colony of people brave a new world, they face challenges from both the Sol system and the ancient aliens who created the protomolecule. With the stakes high and the consequences potentially lethal, Chrisjen Avasarala (HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG's Shohreh Aghdashloo) dispatches Holden and his crew to mediate the situation. Yet the Rocinante's crew get more than they bargained for and the mission could cost them all their lives.
As a huge fan of both the book series and the television show, I'm over the moon that Amazon saved The Expanse. The show is a smart and entertaining glimpse into where we may all be headed as a species. Plus how can you not love Wes Chatham as Amos? The dude is just perfect in the role.
