In less than two months, we'll be finding out if ANNABELLE: CREATION, the prequel to ANNABELLE (which was itself a prequel to THE CONJURING), is any better than the previous Annabelle movie. Judging by the trailer that dropped online early this morning, I'm feeling fairly confident that CREATION is a better movie than ANNABELLE was – it might even be a good movie on its own, without being compared to its predecessor.
The trailer does have a lot of laughable jump scares, a lot of stuff happening really quickly while there's an explosion of sound, but there are some legitimately creepy moments in there as well. I also found it unnerving that the demon within Annabelle will be targeting a little handicapped girl in this film, choosing to pick on her because she's "the weakest" of the demon's potential victims.
Directed by LIGHTS OUT's David F. Sandberg from a screenplay by ANNABELLE writer Gary Dauberman, ANNABELLE: CREATION stars Miranda Otto, Stephanie Sigman, Talitha Bateman, Anthony LaPaglia, Lulu Wilson, Philippa Anne Coulthard, Grace Fulton, Lou Lou Safran, Samara Lee, and Tayler Buck.
In “Annabelle: Creation,” several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.
Like the other films in this "CONJURING Universe", CREATION is produced by Peter Safran and James Wan.
You can see ANNABELLE: CREATION in theatres on August 11th. In the meantime, check out the trailer and the new poster below.
