New stills for The Master have arrived alongside an elaboration about the film’s perceived commentary on Scientology

You’re excited for THE MASTER. I’m excited for THE MASTER. So let’s get even more excited by checking out this brand new batch of stills and some comments on the film’s correlations to Scientology from producer JoAnne Sellar and star Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Barely a month to go now until September 14th.

Hoffman: “It’s not the L. Ron Hubbard story. [Scientology] was one of the bigger movements at the time, but there were a lot of movements at that time,” says Hoffman. “There’s nothing about how I’m behaving or talking that echoes [Hubbard]. I thought of a lot of other bigger-than-life personalities, charismatic people like Orson Welles… Joaquin’s character is like a beaten dog.  No matter where he goes, [Quell, Joaquin’s character] gets into severe trouble. And somehow I’m able to deal with him.”

Sellar: “People are going to have to draw their own conclusions to that aspect of the movie.  [Anderson] is interested in how veterans came back from World War II. They were these lost souls who were uncertain about their future.”

Hope you like looking at Joaquin Phoenix, because these pictures are (almost) all about him.

UPDATE: The Weinstein Company has asked us to remove these images from our site, so we have done so.
