In anticipation of its upcoming screening at Fantasia, a new still from Miramax’s DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK has been released. This picture, which can be seen above, is better than any of the ones we’ve seen before, because we finally get a look at one of the creature.
The film is a remake of the 1973 TV movie of the same name. Troy Nixey directs from a script by Guillermo del Toro (who also serves as producer) and his MIMIC co-writer Matthew Robbins. Bailee Madison, Guy Pearce and Katie Holmes (below) star. It hits theaters on August 26.
DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK follows Sally, a young girl who moves to Rhode Island to live with her father and his new girlfriend in the 19th-century mansion they are restoring. Having stumbled upon the mansion’s hidden basement, Sally starts hearing voices calling out from the bolted ash pit, imploring her to open it. Sally obliges and unwittingly unleashes something so terrible, so unthinkable, that everyone’s life – hers most of all – is placed in immediate and grave danger.
