There are countless reasons why the STAR WARS franchise is so wonderful, but for myself and many others, we've got a special place in our hearts for the droids. As a young child, R2-D2 was by far my favourite character, and the franchise has gone to to include many fantastic droid characters over the years, including IG-88, K-2SO, BB-8, and more. Together with FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), Star Wars: Force for Change have announced a new contest which will give you the chance to design your very own droid which will be included in a future story set in the STAR WARS universe.
"The ingenuity and creativity of Star Wars fans has always amazed me," said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. "When FIRST teamed up with Force for Change, we saw a great opportunity to both highlight their incredible talent and reaffirm the importance of STEM programs. I can’t wait to see what designs they come up with." Hoping to inspire the next generation of heroes and innovators in science, technology, engineering, math, and creative arts, the Build My Droid Contest is open to fans 16 years and older and can take the form of a sketch, drawing, or painting. Not only will you get the chance to see your droid brought to life in a future STAR WARS project, but you will also be invited to the world premiere of STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER to witness the public debut of your droid on the red-carpet. You'll need to submit your droid design here by November 13, 2019. Eligible countries include United States and Canada, excluding Quebec, Great Britain (England, Scotland, Wales Only), France, Spain, Belgium, Japan and Mexico.
STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER is set to hit theaters on December 20, 2019.
