While a new TREK film is pretty damn awesome in its own right, the Star Trek series has always excelled on the television medium. It seems CBS feels the same way, as it will be bringing a new Trek show to TVs at the start of 2017….with a catch.
The new series’ pilot will be featured in a special “preview broadcast” on the CBS Television Network, after which subsequent episodes will only be available in the US on CBS All Access – the network’s digital subscription video on demand and live streaming service.
Alex Kurtzman will serve as executive producer for the new Star Trek TV series, that is said to NOT be related to the latest films. Bold move for CBS to debut such a show on a digital-only format, but there ya have it. It’s only a matter of time before it hits cable, but how long will fans have to wait? Even more dangerous, is what if they’re not willing to give in to the subscription service? I know at least one Trek fan that won’t.
The next film, STAR TREK BEYOND, will hit theaters on July 22, 2016.
