An intriguing participant in this year's San Diego Comic-Con was Oliver Stone's SNOWDEN. Stone, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley were on-hand to discuss the biopic of sorts before Open Road shows the film for the first time on Thursday night, and while an interesting panel discussion commenced (as to be expected by anything involving Stone – "He's still a mystery. He cooperated with us, we went over there as many times as we could … we got as far as we could. We leave it to the realm of dramatization. There are things we don't know, and there are hopefully things he will reveal someday in a book of his own."), it's the latest look at the film that bears a watch.
While there is no question Stone is going to put his own spin on the material and touch upon his own agenda, Gordon-Levitt has the interesting task of humanizing Snowden, so that maybe you understand his actions a little better. There's nuance to him. It isn't as black or white as some would like to think.
SNOWDEN opens in theaters on September 16.
