Three TV spots for the new Scream movie can be seen in the embed above, and each one plays up the mysterious connection this movie’s version of Ghostface has to murders of the past. We’ll have to see the new Scream when it reaches theatres on January 14, 2022 to find out this Ghostface’s secrets… but one thing the marketing department definitely isn’t interested in keeping a secret is the shot of a metal-masked Ghostface blasting away with a flamethrower, an image we discussed last week. They’re having a lot of fun teasing us with that shot.
Although the new Scream is simply titled Scream, this isn’t a remake. It’s a follow-up to the previous four Scream movies, with franchise stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette reprising the roles of Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers, and Dewey Riley. Scream 4‘s Marley Shelton is also in the cast, back as Judy Hicks.
This Scream “legacy-quel” is coming to us from Ready or Not (watch it HERE) directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. The screenplay was written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. Vanderbilt also produced the film for Project X Entertainment, alongside Paul Neinstein and William Sherak. Chad Villella, Gary Barber, Peter Oillataguerre, Ron Lynch, Cathy Konrad, and Marianne Maddalena serve as executive producers alongside original Scream writer Kevin Williamson.
The film has the following synopsis:
Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.
