UPDATE: The studio has sent along an official description for the film: "An other-worldly story, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1963. A mysterious and magical journey from master storyteller Guillermo del Toro."
Back in March we learned that Guillermo del Toro is planning on directing a supernatural Cold War drama that has "an otherworldly love story at the center of it," and now thanks to The Tracking Board, we might know a little bit more about the film, including its title.
The site is claiming that the movie is titled THE SHAPE OF WATER, and that the 1963-set fairytale centers around Elisa, "a mute janitor working at a lab where an amphibious man is being held captive. When Elisa falls in love with the creature, she devises a plan to help him escape with the assistance of her neighbor. The world outside of the lab, however, may prove to be more dangerous for the amphibious man than Elisa could have anticipated."
GODZILLA and BLUE JASMINE actress Sally Hawkins will star as Elisa, and TB has also heard that Richard Jenkins (JACK REACHER) is in talks to play her neighbor. Octavia Spencer (SNOWPIERCER) and Michael Stuhlbarg (A SERIOUS MAN) are also currently in negotiations to join the cast, however there aren't any details on what their roles might be in the film.
It was previously reported that the movie is expected to head into production in mid-August, so if this will indeed be del Toro's next feature film directing project (and there's no guarantee that it will be), we should be hearing more about it in the coming months.
