New Rise of Skywalker video reminisces about 40 years of Star Wars

Whether you have the Jedi Code tattooed on your arm or don't know a lightsaber from a Lifesaver, you cannot deny the vast worldwide impact of STAR WARS. Ever since George Lucas' tale first blasted its way into theaters some forty-two years ago, the saga has been quoted by Presidents, parodied by The Simpsons, and even generated Jediism – a Force/Jedi based way of living your life. STAR WARS, in one form or another, has left an indelible mark on society.

Sadly, the Skywalker saga that began in 1977 will soon end with the release of next month's THE RISE OF SKYWALKER. Whenever something this momentous comes to an end, it's sometimes good to take stock of what came before. Last night at the American Music Awards, Disney did just that, releasing a short retrospective recapping over four decades of STAR WARS. Check it out below:

For this massive STAR WARS fan, that video hit all the right notes. What's fascinating about STAR WARS is how it strikes a chord with so many people. It's generational and global. I don't think I really realized that fully until I had my own son. While he's currently obsessed with Captain Underpants, I eagerly anticipate the day where I'll be able to share the STAR WARS universe with him. That reason alone exemplifies why STAR WARS is more than a movie for so many people. Also that image of Daisy Ridley and Carrie Fisher smiling at each other – I – I just – I'm not crying, you're crying!

STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill concludes the epic nine film saga on December 20.
