As a big fan of the first few CHILD'S PLAY movies and a general fan of the infamous "doll" Chucky, I'm always interested to see what the character will do next. The franchise certainly got crazier and crazier as it grew, but still retained a sense of fright and terror. There's something about your toys coming to life and trying to kill you in really nasty ways that is…appealing. That said, this new red-band trailer for the latest installment, CURSE OF CHUCKY, really doesn't earn a red-band. Like, at all. I had to watch it twice just to see if I missed something, but aside from some blood on clothing, I couldn't find anything worthy of a restricted trailer.
Wanna play?:
Here's the synopsis:
He's back! From the filmmakers that brought you Chucky comes the terrifying return of the pint-sized doll possessed by the spirit of a notorious serial killer. When a mysterious package arrives at the house of Nica (Fiona Dourif, True Blood), she doesn't give it much thought. However, after her mother's mysterious death, Nica begins to suspect that the talking, red-haired doll her visiting niece has been playing with may be the key to the ensuing bloodshed and chaos. The return of America's favorite toy, voiced again by Brad Dourif, is unrated and full of more blood-splattered thrills and chills.
Written and directed by Chucky creator Don Mancini and starring the original (and only) voice of Chucky, Brad Dourif, CURSE OF CHUCKY still manages to look kind of "meh." The whole "new family in a new house" angle is snooze-button tired in the horror genre and it feels like a "in-between" story for ol' Chucky, rather than a solid entry in the cheesy franchise. At this point I'd rather see a remake (blasphemy!).
CURSE OF CHUCKY hits Blu-ray and DVD on October 8, 2013.
