Man, oh man, it’s so close I can taste it. The third season of HBO’s Game of Thrones kicks off this Sunday and for many of us it’s the excitement equivalent of the opening of a big-budget summer movie. Possibly bigger. The great thing is we get ten hours of it, rather than just a few hours. Today, HBO released a new promo for season 3, which features a lot more of Daenerys’ (Emilia Clarke) dragons, while a new featurette focuses on the Wildlings, who live North of the Wall. The promo will amp you up more than shotgunning a Jolt cola if you’re a fan and the featurette gives a lot of insight into the Wildling encampment, featuring interviews with Ciaran Hinds, who portrays the “King-Beyond-The-Wall” Mance Rayder, as well as snippets from Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane), and Rose Leslie (Ygritte).
One scene previewed in the featurette confirms that we’ll see giants this season, as Ygritte asks a bewildered Jon Snow, “First time you seen a giant, Jon Snow?” Fans of the novels will know of the various “things” we’ll see beyond the wall and they discuss a lot of it here, but never reveal anything that would spoil the plot, so have no fear. If anything, it’s all just a glorious tease for what is likely to be the best season of the series thus far.
