It was announced last year that 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg was working on a secret Predator movie, and although there have been plenty of rumours since that time, we've had very little official information… until now. While speaking with Collider, producers John Davis and John Fox have spilled a few details on the new Predator movie, which they say will be titled: Skull.
John Davis and John Fox confirmed that Skull will feature a female hero, and explained how the film will feel much more like the original Arnold Schwarzenegger film than any of the sequels. "It goes back to what made the original Predator movie work. It's the ingenuity of a human being who won't give up, who's able to observe and interpret, basically being able to beat a stronger, more powerful, well-armed force," Davis explained. Skull will be an origin story of the Predator's first visit to our planet, and Fox went on to compare the film to Leonardo DiCaprio's The Revenant.
It actually has more akin to The Revenant than it does any film in the Predator canon. You'll know what I mean once you see it.
As for just when in history this film will take place, the pair wouldn't spill the beans, with Davis only saying, "You can use your imagination. It is…early." A release date for Skull hasn't yet been revealed, but Davis did say that Dan Trachtenberg is "probably three-quarters of the way through" production at this point. Although each of the Predator sequels offers something of value in my opinion, they certainly fall short of the gritty original. Will Dan Trachtenberg's project have what it takes? I don't know, but I certainly can't wait to find out.
