New posters, TV spot drop for Lion King as tickets go on sale

Hot off their big opening weekend for TOY STORY 4, Disney is already looking to kick start the rush to theaters for their next big family movie – and perhaps the biggest movie of the summer – THE LION KING. After seeing plenty of trailers and glimpses at CGI versions of normal animals, tickets are now on sale for the upcoming blockbuster that children will demand their parents take them too after already getting to see TOY STORY and SPIDER-MAN. Sorry, parents’ wallets.

To mark the start of ticket sales Disney officially dropped some goodies for viewers in the form of two new Dolby posters, which make use of a watercolor style along with generous use of white space. Given that there are no human actors in the movie to show off there hasn’t been a ton of posters released, at least compared to the likes of SPIDER-MAN and AVENGERS. A few character (animal) posters here and there, as well as a teaser and a main, so really any poster with some gorgeous artwork is more than welcome.

Next, Disney officially released the TV spot featuring the singing of “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” between Donald Glover (Simba) and Beyonce Knowles-Carter (Nala). We ran a story previously when the spot leaked a bit early on Twitter, but now you can see it with better image quality and sound, more seamlessly flowing between the video of Mufasa (James Earl Jones) talking with little Simba and the new rendition of the classic song.

Disney also released the soundtrack info for the movie, including tracks from Hans Zimmer and the new song "Never Too Late" from Elton John and Tim Rice. As you will notice, there's still one song that's "TBA".

As for the tickets, you can now buy them anywhere tickets are sold, and even some chains like AMC are doing exclusive fan events where you can see it a little earlier than everyone else. Disney movies have a knack for selling a boatload of tickets early on as people rush to get their seats, with movies like STAR WARS, AVENGERS and TOY STORY breaking records on their first day of presales (though for TOY STORY, it didn't quite result in a record-breaking weekend). Coming towards the end of what has been a surprisingly disappointing summer, LION KING will have little competition going into late-July and August, so perhaps this summer season will end with a roar after all.
