In the new historical epic OUTLAW KING, Chris Pine takes to the battlefield as the King of Scots, Robert the Bruce, leading Scotland to war against the oppressive English. A bloody affair it shall be, and the new trailer for the movie from HELL OR HIGH WATER director David Mackenzie showcases some of the intense, suitably epic action filled with charging on horseback, muddy battlegrounds and castles aflame. Word is Pine has an epic moment of another sort in the movie, but I guess they’re leaving that out of the trailers.

This is the kind of movie that would be too large in scale to imagine going right to Netflix, but it is, and it further proves we're no longer in the same age of content consumption that we were even a few short years ago. This is the kind of old-school epic that would get Oscar pundits all abuzz, calling to mind 1995’s BRAVEHEART (which went on to win Best Picture), and looks like it has all the trimmings of a fun, bloody historical adventure. It may not be the kind of movie you’re meant to watch on your phone, but what are you going to do, not watch Pine charging on a horse?
The movie premiered at TIFF to so-so reviews, but our own Chris Bumbray hailed it as a rousing epic in his glowing 9/10 review. The other reviews make up for a mixed bag, as it currently stands at a 48% on Rotten Tomatoes.
