We learned recently that the second season of Netflix’s MINDHUNTER would be debuting on August 16, delivering more true crime suspense featuring some of the world’s most notorious killers. We have yet to see the first trailer for the returning show from producer David Fincher, but now several photos have made their way online showing returning agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) meeting with some of the most famous criminals in American history, like Charles Manson and Son of Sam.

Netflix debuted the photos (via EW, THR) ahead of what some believe is a trailer that could arrive any day now, considering we’re less that one month away from the season’s premiere. The photos tease new investigations from Ford, Tench and with the help of Anna Torv’s Wendy Carr, who are all conducting research into the minds of killers on behalf of the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit. Here we see the returning Ed Kemper (played by Cameron Britton) and new faces, like Damon Herriman’s Manson. Herriman can also be seen as Manson in Quentin Tarantino’s ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD next week, but this show takes place ten years after that film, so he’s a bit more worn down here.
The last season of the show ended with Ford having a panic attack after having an especially intimidating conversation with Kemper, where the imposing killer approached Ford and said he could kill him before anyone would have a chance to stop him. This came at the end of an episode where Ford's ego had been a bit too puffed up after proving his methods could catch killers, and as we see in the final image he's in the hospital at some point, perhaps recovering from the panic attack spurned by, you know, almost being strangled.

As for where season two will go, Fincher said in the past the season would focus on the Atlanta child murders and take place in a time when killers like Manson and Zodiac could reach celebrity status. In order to catch the killer, Ford and Tench will likely have to dig into the minds of criminals returning to the series and newcomers alike and will take place at the end of the 70s-beginning of the 80s after the work of the team has started to gain notice.
