As most of you know, there was a film adaptation back in 1996. It centered on a fleet of Martian spacecraft that surrounds the world's major cities as humanity waits to see if they have come in peace. U.S. President Jack Nicholson receives assurance from Pierce Brosnan that the Martians' mission is friendly. It was directed by Tim Burton from a screenplay written by Jonathan Gems based on Mars Attacks by Topps. Burton ad Larry J. Franco produced and it starred Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close, Annette Bening, Pierce Brosnan, Danny DeVito, Martin Short, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michael J. Fox, Rod Steiger, Tom Jones, Lukas Haas, Natalie Portman, Jim Brown, Lisa Marie, and Sylvia Sidney. Warner Bros. unleashed it back on December 13, 1996.
