New Line's remake of HOUSEBOUND is continuing to be a thing. Dave Neustadter and Walter Hamada, who are overseeing the project, have just brought on New Zealand scribe Chris Borrelli (THE VATICAN TAPES, ELOISE) to pen the first draft of the script.
It's a mystery why they chose a screenwriter from New Zealand when the only reason they're remaking the English-language property is to scrub all the New Zealand out of it. I hope it's good, like I hope all movies will be, but this certainly isn't an exciting development.
Here's the synopsis of the original HOUSEBOUND:
The story tells of a rebellious young woman who is forced to return to her country home thanks to forced home detention program. Living with her small-town-minded mother and stepfather seems like a fate worse than death until she begins to suspect that something malevolent may be in house as well.
HOUSEBOUND starred Morgana O’Reilly, Rima Te Wiata, Glen-Paul Waru, Cameron Rhodes, Millen Baird, Ross Harper, Bruce Hopkins, Ryan Lampp, Ian Mune and Wallace Chapman.
