A big-screen adaptation of the 80s video game RAMPAGE certainly makes sense. On paper, it’s the type of concept that translates well into a big-budget blockbuster. Giant monsters roaming around the world, destroying landmarks and laying waste to cities. Toss Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson into the mix as the film’s star, and you’re looking at what should be a surefire hit. But with a bunch of money being poured into the film, you’d better believe New Line wants to make sure they can get the best shooting script possible before they head into production with a brand that was at its height nearly 30 years ago.
That’s why The Rock took to his Instagram today to announce that Carlton Cuse and Ryan Condal – creators of the USA Network series COLONY – have been tasked with rewriting Ryan Engle’s script.
Cuse will always carry with him some baggage due to his involvement with LOST and the disappointment a handful of those fans still carry with them to this day. However, COLONY has been received positively since its premiere in January, and The Rock is familiar with Cuse’s work, given his script helped SAN ANDREAS to box office success. So this the direction RAMPAGE is set to take at the moment before the cameras begin rolling later this year.
