Nintendo and LEGO unveiled an interactive LEGO game last month which serves as something of a real-life level of Super Mario. Per the press-release, the set isn't quite a video-game or a traditional LEGO set, but features "an interactive LEGO Mario figure who collects coins in real-life game levels created with LEGO bricks. The new line will let kids experience the playful world of Super Mario like never before. Super Mario will be brought to life in the physical LEGO world and new levels of challenge and styles of play will be part of the iconic LEGO experience enjoyed by generations." Well, Nintendo and LEGO have now revealed just when this set will be released, as well as showing off the first expansions sets for the core game which includes the Piranha Plant Power Slide and Bowser's Castle Boss Battle sets.

"I have always liked LEGO products and how they help children use their imagination to play," Takashi Tezuka, Executive Officer and Game Producer of Nintendo Co., Ltd., said. "The new product we created together with the LEGO Group seeks to combine two different styles of play – one where you freely build the world of Mario and the other where you play with Mario in the very world that you have created."
The LEGO Super Mario Starter Course will launch on August 1, 2020 for $59.99. The two expansion sets will also be available that date, with the Piranha Plant Power Slide going for $29.99 and Bowser's Castle Boss Battle going for $99.99. I'll admit to still scratching my head as to exactly how these sets work, but they certainly are neat.
