Confirming the news that broke last Friday, Stephen Dorff will indeed play the role of Hartman, a "deranged lawman" in Millennium Films' LEATHERFACE. More details about the story have also emerged below…
According to Deadline:
The film centers around a violent teen who one day will become Leatherface. He escapes from a mental hospital with three other inmates, kidnaps a young nurse and takes her on a road trip from hell. Along the way, they are pursued by an equally deranged lawman out for revenge.
It sounds like the mystery element regarding who actually grows up to be Leatherface is still intact, which drastically diverts from every CHAINSAW sequel we've ever seen. To be clear, I'm forever opposed to any refueling of the chainsaw, but wow, between this new angle and proven French filmmakers (Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo), perhaps there's hope for a worthy redo yet.
Along with Dorff, Sam Strike, James Bloor and Angela Bettis are all attached to star. Carl Mazzocone is producing LEATHERFACE with Christa Campbell and Lati Grobman after they successfully resurrected the franchise in 2013. Les Weldon is also a producer on the project, which is being executive produced by Millennium’s Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, John Thompson, Mark Gill and Beth Bruckner O’Brien. Seth M. Sherwood wrote the script.
