With DOCTOR STRANGE and FANTASTIC BEASTS on the way, ROGUE ONE after them and JOHN WICK on the horizon, it’s easy for other movies to slip through the cracks in terms of remembering they exist. One of those movies is KONG: SKULL ISLAND, a movie that made a splash at Comic-Con this year with a trailer and poster, but has dropped little else in the meantime. No new footage or poster, and not even a revealing interview from anyone involved. The folks at Warner Bros. and Legendary are really keeping stuff on lockdown in regards to the movie. I must admit though, they've sort of made up for it here.
Coming Soon was one of a few sites that were sent a new KONG: SKULL ISLAND poster, which on the surface seemed like some cool, retro, viral poster. You know, not something that would actually get put up in a theater, but more something fun to circulate around the web. Well, the poster came with a note from MONARCH, (the fictional secret organization from 2014’s GODZILLA) which gave the hint to search the poster with a black light, and when done so reveals a series of notes scribbled onto the surface. Take a look below!
The real letter was signed by John Goodman's character, William Randa, a government official who accompanies the group into the jungle. To avoid having to squint super hard, here is what the revealed words say:
"His mouth is fire; his roar the floodwater; his breath is death. Enlil made him guardian of the Cedar Forest, To frighten off the mortal who would venture there. BUT WHO WOULD VENTURE THERE?”
Oooooh, so ominous! Could the monster or “guardian” they’re referring to be Kong? Is the massive monkey what the group in the movie is searching for? Will this lead to the epic showdown between Zilla and The Ape in the future? Why are secret organizations so secretive?! They act as if their name depends on it!
Anyway, the poster is a pretty sick way of giving off hints as to what Warner Bros.' plans for the big ape and lizard are. Not to mention it may give a clue as to what the group headed by Tom Hiddleston’s character is doing at Skull Island. The poster reveals a bit, yes, but proves there are still mysteries to be solved. Well played, Warner Bros., well played
