New images from the Arrow series finale show familiar faces

While it was never my intention to start your week off on a dour note, I'm here to report that on Monday, The CW released new images from the series finale of ARROW, which give us our first look at the return of Emily Bett Rickards' Felicity Smoak.

If you've been keeping your finger on the pulse of the Arrowverse as of late, you're likely to be aware that Rickards left the long-running superhero drama at the close of season 7, which found her fan-favorite character going into hiding while pregnant with hers and Oliver's newborn daughter Mia. As you can see from the photos released today, Felicity has emerged from the shadows for Oliver's funeral.

While the pics are taken from a sad scene indeed, they do mark the return of several characters who haven't been seen in a while, such as Joe Dinicol, whose last appearance as Rory/Ragman happened during the show's 150th episode. Other stars who are set to mourn the loss of Oliver Queen are Susanna Thompson as Oliver's mother, Moira Queen, Willa Holland as Thea Queen, Sea Shimooka as Emiko Queen, and Echo Kellum as Curtis Holt. Others found in today's batch of still are Grant Gustin's Barry Allen / The Flash, and Caity Lotz as Sara Lance / White Canary.

The series finale episode for ARROW is aptly titled "Fadeout," which has been written by showrunner Beth Schwartz and consulting producer Marc Guggenheim. The brief plot synopsis for the no doubt tear-jerking episode reads as follows: After eight seasons, and the launch of countless superheroes, the series wraps up the story of the Green Arrow (Stephen Amell).

While I personally checked out of the CW's Arrowverse some time ago, I know for a fact that countless fans are going to be an emotional wreck when the series finale episode of ARROW hits the mark on January 28th. My suggestion is to bring a box of Kleenex for this episode, folks, as there's likely not going to be a dry eye in the house, once Oliver Queen is returned to the earth from wence he came. At the very least, Queen will have left one hell of a legacy behind, as well as plenty of heroes to help keep watch over his city.
